One of the most vital actions before getting a futon bed is measuring the amount of space where you would want to place it. From there, you could decide which size of futon to get: the twin, full or the king/queen sizes. Futons take more space than the usual bunk beds so make certain that there are extra spaces to accommodate it. Once you open the futon, it might take up a lot more space than you initially thought of. If you plan to have other furniture to be placed adjacent to a futon, make sure it is easily movable to avoid hassle when opening up the futon.
The modern futon designs nowadays are much related to its frame. You can buy wooden or metal frame for your futons and as both has their own advantage over another. Depending on what kind of design you are having in your room, metal would bring modern kind of look while wooden would help you with elegance. Even if it is a small room, you should not hold yourself back from giving your best in designing it. With its efficiency and durability, futons would be a great addition to your house regardless of its size.
The overall function of the futon will be the primary basis of which type to buy. Determine how will you use it. Would it be more for sitting and relaxing, more of for sleeping purposes or all of the above. Know also where would you want to have it positioned, in your son's room or on the guests' quarters. Knowing the primary function of futon can also help you assess which type of mattresses to purchase. A bulkier mattress may be needed if you are using it for sleeping purposes, the wooden frame can also provide a sturdy foundation.
There was a time when cheap futons for sale were regarded as college furniture, and it was nearly a mortal sin to have it at home. But times have changed. Admittedly, there are better more expensive pieces of furniture you could get, but that doesn't mean you disregard futons completely. If anything, they act as a great space saver, giving you a comfortable sleeping place, without taking up all the floor space. You get a sofa and a bed, without having to buy them individually.
Stress supports are usually narrow boards that help to reinforce the slats from the underneath. Not only do they reinforce the slat, but for those companies whose stress supports fit in snuggly against the front and back framing boards--they have the added benefit of helping to keep the futon frame from skewing when it is converted from bed to sofa. Likewise, stress supports with three screws per support are better than those with only two.
